Bitcoin and South African Rand: reading the rate

This DTCC Trading reference relates Bitcoin (BTC) to South African Rand (ZAR). Read the pair and its rate units together to understand which amount a calculation describes. Related reading: cryptocurrency. Divide an amount of ZAR by a rate quoted in ZAR per BTC to calculate its reference value in BTC. The rate unit matters as much as its value. A rate expressed as BTC per ZAR uses the opposite operation. Check input precision and round only the final result. A reference calculation needs a clearly identified data source and observation time. Prices collected from different venues or at different moments need not agree. An unavailable or out-of-date rate cannot establish a current value, and a previous observation should not be presented as a fresh executable offer. The calculated amount and the amount actually received in a transaction answer different questions. A transaction can involve a spread, service charges and network costs. Read each charge in its stated currency and check whether it is included or added separately. This reference does not publish a DTCC fee schedule or promise a final ZAR or BTC amount. Related reading: wallet address. Explore blockchain. Market depth affects an executable exchange. The price available for a small amount may differ from the average price across a larger order, and available liquidity can change before an order is filled. A reference value describes the inputs supplied to a calculation; it cannot guarantee an execution price, available balance or settlement time. Asset identity is a separate check from price. Use primary documentation to establish the network and exact identifier for Bitcoin. A symbol can be used for different representations, including tokens issued or bridged on other networks. Matching names alone does not establish equivalent rights, custody arrangements or transfer compatibility. DTCC Trading focuses on Stellar tokenization and multichain interoperability. On Stellar, a classic issued asset is identified by its asset code and issuer; the network context must also be clear. A currency label in a reference calculation does not by itself identify a redeemable token, its issuer or the terms under which redemption is available.
