Reading comparisons

Reading comparisons

Source information

A useful comparison identifies its sources, the observation date and the exact question being compared. A statement about an asset, price or service needs evidence that matches its scope.

Comparable scope

Compare the same type of service, asset, amount and currency. Separate measured values from opinions and check whether differences in the underlying assumptions explain the result.

Checking information

Follow a claim to its primary source and read the source in context. A current service description and an older review can describe different conditions.

Method and assumptions

Read the inputs and method before interpreting the result of a comparison.

For tokenized assets, keep asset identity, network, issuer and documented rights together. Similar names do not by themselves establish equivalent assets. For value comparisons, also record the source, time and units.

Source for a price

A price comparison requires the exact asset, quote currency, venue or data source and observation time.

A previous observation does not establish a current executable price.

Comparison basis

Use the same amount and rate units on both sides of a calculation.

Review whether the amount shown is before or after charges, and whether the two observations refer to the same service conditions.

Cost calculation

Distinguish the quoted rate from the amount received. Read each charge in its stated currency and check whether it is included or added separately.

A percentage has meaning only when its numerator and denominator are clearly defined.

For example, a difference of 10 against a reference amount of 100 is 10%. This arithmetic does not identify the cause of the difference or establish any provider’s fee.

Apply the same definitions and units throughout the comparison.

Source and scope

Record the source used for each value and its observation date.

Read payment method, network, region and service conditions separately. Differences in these inputs can make two apparent offers incomparable.

Time sensitivity

Prices and service conditions change. A dated comparison describes its recorded observations; it does not promise that those observations remain available.

Limits and assumptions

State which information is known and which information remains unverified.

A reference value cannot guarantee an execution result, liquidity or settlement time.

Questions to resolve

When a claim cannot be traced to a clear source, keep it unresolved. Review the applicable documentation before drawing a conclusion about cost, availability, asset rights or service quality.

About this page

This page explains how to read comparisons. It does not certify a provider, claim regulatory compliance or publish a DTCC comparison methodology for executable offers.

DTCC Trading focuses on Stellar tokenization and multichain interoperability. Understanding the asset, its documented representation and the networks involved is the starting point for that perspective.
